Materials

  • Students must have access to a piano (tuned, if acoustic) and metronome.

  • If students are studying classical music, the piano should be full-size (88 keys) with weighted keys (touch sensitivity).

  • Students may be asked to purchase music books, chord charts, flashcards, and other resources necessary for lessons.

Application

  • Students ages 5 and older may apply to study at Adoration Music Academy. Adults are welcome. Students may apply any time of the year.

  • If students are on a waiting list, preference will be given to those who are older, more advanced, and demonstrate commitment. Scheduling availability will also be considered.

Scheduling

  • Scheduling preference will be given to students who take lessons weekly. Students who drop lessons for a period of time should be aware that their lesson time slots may be given to other students during their absence.

  • Accommodations cannot be guaranteed for inaccurate or incomplete information.

Financial – Billing

  • Monthly payments are due by the 1st of each month and cover the entire upcoming month of lessons. Tuition may vary based on the number of lessons in each month. Bills will be sent on the 20th of the prior month.

  • The first month of tuition must be paid before the first lesson.

  • Payments can be made online. Cash will not be accepted.

  • Overdue accounts will be assessed a $10 late fee on the 5th of the month. Lessons may be terminated if an overdue balance has not been paid for 2 consecutive months.

  • If a check is returned due to insufficient funds, a $30 fee will be assessed to cover bank charges.

  • The cost of lessons includes more than simply lesson time. This figure includes time spent processing the application, interviewing the student, determining the student’s level and goals, choosing appropriate repertoire, preparing for lessons, and attending conferences and workshops. It also covers the costs of instruments, equipment, insurance, taxes, maintenance, software and teaching materials, music books and sheet music, professional memberships, and the teacher’s training and continuing education. For convenience, these considerations are included in the cost of tuition rather than separated into fees.

Financial – Refunds

  • Because students pay to reserve their lesson times, lessons canceled or missed with less than 48 hours’ notice will not be refunded, even if missed due to illness or family emergency. If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please contact your teacher 48 hours in advance.

  • If enrollment is cancelled by the student, parent/guardian, or teacher, unused lessons will be refunded.

  • If a lesson is canceled by the teacher, the teacher will offer either a credit/refund or a makeup lesson. Canceled classes will be refunded.

Lesson Expectations – Parents/Guardians

  • Lessons will be via Zoom. Parents/guardians should make sure that the technology is working and that students are able to connect to the online lesson. A parent, guardian, or older sibling should attend the lesson if the child is under age 7.

  • If possible, students should use a tablet or laptop instead of a phone to ensure that they are able to see the teacher clearly. The camera should be positioned so that the entire keyboard as well as the student’s face, hands, and arms are in view.

  • Siblings are welcome to watch if they are not distracting to the student or teacher. Cell phones and electronic devices should be silenced, and those in the vicinity should be quiet and courteous during the lesson.

  • To help the connection, family members and friends should refrain from streaming movies or playing online video games during the lesson.

Lesson Expectations – Students

  • Students are expected to connect to the lesson on time and stay the entire duration. To show consideration for other students, lessons will begin and end on time, regardless of the time students arrive.

  • Students are expected to have their lesson books, music, metronome, flashcards, pencils, and other materials requested by the teacher ready before the lesson starts.

  • Students must pay attention and show proper respect to the teacher. Behavioral issues will be discussed with a parent/guardian. Students may be suspended or excused from a lesson or class if the behavioral issues are not resolved.

Practicing

  • Students are expected to meet the agreed upon practice requirements for their age, level, and overall goals.

Culmination Projects

  • Culmination projects are optional. Ideas include a recital for family/friends, a video recording, a PowerPoint presentation, a worship service, writing a song, accompanying a sing-along, or other ideas agreed upon by the teacher and student.

Contacting

  • Billing, lesson scheduling, and other important information will be communicated via email. Please provide a working email address and check it frequently to avoid missing important announcements.

  • Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the teacher with questions and concerns. However, please email rather than texting or calling unless the situation is time-critical. If a phone conversation is preferred, please set up a time via email or text.

Copyright

  • Students, parents/guardians, and teacher must carefully observe copyright laws.
