In John 12, we read the story of Mary of Bethany bringing a costly offering to Jesus—her alabaster jar of expensive perfume.

It wasn’t just valuable… it cost her everything.
Her reputation. Her finances. Her future.

And she poured it out anyway.
No hesitation. No holding back.

For worship musicians, this raises an honest question:

What is our offering?

We often think about giving God our time, our hearts, our schedules…
But there’s something else we don’t talk about as much:

Our playing.

More specifically—our style.

In many worship settings, the goal becomes playing songs exactly like the recording.
Same parts. Same sounds. Same structure.

And over time, the focus can quietly shift…
from offering something to God, to getting everything “right.”

But what if the style in that recording was their offering?
Not yours.

So the question becomes:
What are you bringing?

Because your playing—your instincts, your phrasing, your musical voice—wasn’t given to you by accident.

And when you bring that honestly before the Lord, it becomes something real. Something personal. Something costly in its own way.

You don’t need to copy someone else’s offering.
You’re invited to bring your own.

Your playing is an offering.

So… what are you giving to Jesus?
